Luzon
9 July 2007Luzon is the chief island of the Paradise Philippines archipelago. It is also the largest and most important island both economically and politically. According to history, it was referred to as Luçonia or Luçon and inhabitants were called Luçoes.
It is composed of eight regions: Ilocos Region (Region I), Cagayan Valley (Region II), Central Luzon (Region III), CALABARZON (an acronym standing for its provinces - Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon, also known as Region IV-A), MIMAROPA (an acronym standing for its provinces - Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, and formerly Palawan Region IV-B), Bicol Region (Region V), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and National Capital Region (NCR).
